District of Vanderhoof - Message

May 2014

Minerals North 2014, May 21-23

Minerals North has been a long time coming to Vanderhoof. We are very excited because this is probably the biggest event we have had the privilege to host in our community. I would personally like to congratulate the organizing committee and staff at the District of Vanderhoof, in preparing for this week, I’m sure their hard work will show over the next couple of days

Over 500 delegates and sponsors will fill our community; we are pleased to welcome each one of them. Minerals North is important to Vanderhoof. Our economy has seen a lot of new opportunity with the mining projects of Endako to the west, Mt Milligan to the north and New Gold to the south. We find ourselves at the crossroads of some of the most exciting mining activity which will allow us to diversify our forestry and agriculture economy.

All of Vanderhoof’s hotels are fully booked and delegates are being bussed from Prince George, Fraser Lake and Fort St James. This conference is seen to be very important by those from outside the Nechako Valley, we hope you will take advantage of this quality conference and register to be a part of it, or on Thursday, May the 22nd take advantage of the trade show at the Arena from 1:00-3:00 PM and the Art Show at the Gospel Chapel from 6:00-9:00 PM.

This event is incredibly important, not only will this give us the chance to focus on an emerging segment of our economy; it also gives us the chance to showcase our shops and restaurants. This week when you see new faces in and about town, take time to welcome them and make sure they know how much we appreciate them being part of our community.
